The Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute was established in Stellenbosch by top dermatologist, Dr. Johann de Wet as a centre of excellence in dermatology.
The institute offers the full scope of medical dermatology, skin cancer screening and treatment, as well as Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
The institute also acts as a referral centre for skin cancer patients from all over the Western Cape and comprises a multidisciplinary team of specialists providing patients with expert and evidence-based care.
Our Dermatologists offer consultations at our Stellenbosch and Somerset West offices.

Of course I had some trepidation about having a deeply invasive basal cell carcinoma incised - on my forehead. But what an amazing experience at Summerhill Clinic with Dr Johann de Wet.
Pre documentation was done with ease.
I was told by friends who Dr de Wet had operated on that he was good.
He (and Str. Jana) weren't good - they were EXCELLENT.
From the doc's manner, his in depth explanation and his ongoing updates (it was done under local anaesthetic, what a pleasure not to go under).
If you're reading this you know that it's MOHs surgery - which is the gold standard globally, whereby tissue is progressively removed - and examined until all cancer is removed. So minimal damage to the surrounding area and when it's on the face - minimal scarring.
Pre documentation was done with ease.

Dr Johann de Wet did and examination on my facial skin and confirmed the MOHS procedure to be used to remove a Basal cell carcinoma on the left side of my nose as well as a melanoma directly in front of my left ear. He is very professional and the surgery went smoothly. I am extremely satisfied with the service received from Dr de Wet and recommend him highly.

Excellent experience. Most paperwork done on line so no waiting when you arrive. Well oiled machine. In at 7h30 .. out by 12. Neat, clean and efficient facility with very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Thank you Dr de Wet to you and your team in the practice rooms and at the Day Clinic. The entire process from initial booking through to post procedure was characterised by quality, ease, consistency and timeliness of electronic and interpersonal communication. As for Dr de Wet personally, I was kept fully informed in terms I understood, no question was off limits and the technical execution of the procedure itself was so reassuring in all respects. I was recommended by my Dermatologist to Dr de Wet and his team to have Moh's surgery for a Basal Cell Carcinoma.
Dr de Wet is very professional, kind and caring. Admin was amazing.
I went to Summerhill Surgical Centre for the procedure. Had the same amazing care right down from the cleaners...up to the Specialists.
I would recommend going this route if you have any BCC problems. You will be in very good hands.

Johan de Wet deserves all the accolades and awards he has received over the past years! He is the best at the MOHS surgery in the WC. Johan along with his entire team were professional, thorough, patient, kind and supportive as well as jovial too. Nothing was too much to ask from them. I believe that most of us would be anxious if our local dermatologist referred us for surgery after a appointment. Right from my first consultation with Dr De Wet I knew I was in the right hands.
He took the time to explain the procedure and put my fears to rest.
My clearest recollection on the day of the procedure was Dr De Wet leaning over me with a magnifying eyepiece to examine and mark the areas to be treated with precision ( with soft rock music playing in the background)
In a perfect world we would probably never need skin surgery but if we had to it would be with Dr De Wet.
He took the time to explain the procedure and put my fears to rest.
