Dr Barbara van der Westhuizen
Dr van der Westhuizen is a specialist Dermatologist, registered with the HPCSA. She offers a full spectrum of dermatological services, including medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, with a particular focus on the early detection, treatment, and prevention of skin cancer.
Dr van der Westhuizen obtained her medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Stellenbosch in 2010, laying the foundation for her career in comprehensive skin health. She completed her medical internship at the East London Hospital Complex and her community service at Gordonia Hospital in Upington. Her early career included six years in private practice as a General Practitioner in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, where she gained broad clinical experience and deepened her interest in dermatological conditions. She later pursued specialist training in Dermatology at Tygerberg Academic Hospital, driven by her passion for skin health and evidence-based care. She graduated with a MMED in Dermatology from Stellenbosch University and a Fellowship from the College of Dermatology of South Africa.
Today, Dr van der Westhuizen is known for her patient-centred approach, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to delivering the highest standards in dermatological care. She is especially passionate about skin cancer awareness and prevention, and is actively involved in public education campaigns aimed at empowering patients to understand and protect their skin.
